This aims to develop a Model of Community Care for Persons who Chronic Mental Illness.
It is action research. Popaltion are 100 persons but ten families participated in study .A model of
community care had two dimension, including having freelance Instructor nurses,study nurse,nurse provide
home health care and working with the communities to decrease the environment risk factor related to
drinking in the community.
The patients from ten families participated in study .After six months of the project, results show
that eight patients decrease their general functioning and mental health.but, Two patient chose to stay in
Sirthanya Hospital because he drinking alots in the community. From this study indicated that the
government should have health policy to provide health service for the patient living in an environment
risk for increasing relapse. Haring freelance Instructor nurses, study nurse ,nurses provide home health
care is one intervention.
The second dimension of the community was to decrease the environment risk factor related to
drinking in the community. The rest who did not join reasoned that they were too busy from work and
nobody in the family drank. About a half of people who drank alcohol remained drinking as usual.
There are some reasons why this project was not successful in getting people involving in
caring for the mentally ill people and in changing attitude and behavior related to alcohol drinking in the
community First ,the problem was not acknowledged by the community. Secondly ,mental illness is not
a contagious illness, for this reason, people did not see how it related to their lives. therefore, they did not
view it as a community problem Thirdly, changing attitude and behaviors related to alcohol consumption
needs a multidisciplinary team with involvement at various levels and times, and with sensitive
communication. The research team was not skillful to run this kind of project.
